Detailed Itinerary
The journey begins early morning from Dehradun as we drive towards Sankri, the base village for the Har Ki Dun trek. The scenic route takes us through Mussoorie, after which the road follows the Yamuna River for a significant stretch. As we move deeper into the hills past Purola, the landscape changes into dense pine forests and remote mountain villages. Reach Sankri by evening. Sankri is a picturesque Himalayan village known for its apple orchards and magnificent views of Swargarohini Peak. Overnight stay in a guest house or camp.
After breakfast, drive from Sankri to Taluka, the road head of the trek. From Taluka, begin the trek along the Supin River. The trail is gradual and scenic, passing through dense forests of walnut, pine, cedar, and maple trees. Walk alongside the river, crossing small streams and wooden bridges. The soothing sound of flowing water and shaded forest paths make this a pleasant trekking day. Views of Gangad Village across the river add to the charm. Reach Puani Garat campsite by evening. Overnight stay in tents.
Today’s trek starts with a steady climb towards Osla Village, perched above the Supin River. The ascent is slightly steep but rewarding, with beautiful views of terraced farms and traditional wooden houses. At Osla, experience the unique culture of the village and visit the ancient Someshwar Temple dedicated to Lord Duryodhana. After Osla, the trail becomes gentler, passing through open meadows filled with wildflowers and forest patches. Continue trekking towards Kalkatidhar campsite, located in a quiet alpine setting. Overnight stay at the campsite.
This is the most scenic and rewarding day of the trek. Start early and walk through wide alpine meadows as the Har Ki Dun valley slowly opens up. The trail passes through beautiful birch forests and vast grasslands with uninterrupted views of snow clad peaks such as Swargarohini, Black Peak, and Bandarpoonch. Reach Har Ki Dun valley and spend time exploring the surroundings. Continue further to the serene Marinda Tal, a high altitude lake nestled amidst towering peaks. After soaking in the breathtaking views, begin the return trek to Kalkatidhar by evening. Overnight stay at the campsite.
After breakfast, start descending towards Puani Garat. The downhill walk allows for a relaxed pace and better appreciation of the valley views. Pass through Osla Village once again, interacting with locals and observing their daily life. The trail continues through forests and river side paths before reaching Puani Garat by afternoon. Evening at leisure to rest and relax at the campsite. Overnight stay in tents.
Begin the final trekking day by descending from Puani Garat to Taluka along the Supin River. The trail is mostly downhill and comfortable, passing through shaded forest sections and river crossings. On reaching Taluka, board the vehicle for the drive back to Sankri. Spend the evening relaxing in the village, celebrating the successful completion of the trek. Overnight stay in a guest house or camp.
After breakfast, drive back to Dehradun via the same scenic mountain route. Arrival by evening with wonderful memories of the Har Ki Dun valley, its landscapes, culture, and trekking experience.
